This bourbon opens with notes of mocha, vanilla and an exuberance of rye, all reminiscent of Berkshire Bourbon. It is the mid palate and finish where the influence of the Utopias beer and the Tawny and Vintage port barrels within which it aged kicks in. Fig, maple and a sweet port finish dominate the taste buds. Expertly crafted in small batches from locally-grown corn and then finished in recently emptied Ommegang beer barrels for four months, Berkshire Mountain Distillers Cask Finished Bourbon Whiskey is a balanced, harmonious spirit with subtle nuances inherited from the Ommegang beer barrels. Both the nose and palate offer assertive notes of spice, complemented by mature fruit, vanilla and oak. Hints of caramel and almond appear on the lingering finish.
